Aquatics

PRESCHOOL PROGRAMS

The National YMCA swim program is designed to develop each participant's potential, encourage safety awareness in and around the water and perfect swim skills. 

Pike, Eel, Ray and Starfish classes are designed for preschool swimmers and each  level will build upon the preceding one in order to allow children to progress at a challenging yet comfortable pace. Children must be 3 years old by the first day of class.  (Parents may observe class on the pool deck on the last day of the program session only.)

Unless otherwise indicated, classes meet once a week for eight weeks.
Fee:     $100/8 lessons - Membership is required.   
PIKE
No pre-requisite. Start with 3-bubble flotation device. Children explore aquatic environment, adjust to a group situation without a parent, learn water safety, and work on stroke development.
EEL
Must complete PIKE level. Children start at 2 bubbles (or less) confidently and are comfortable putting their face in the water. Additional YMCA skills are introduced and children work on building endurance.
RAY
Must complete EEL level. Children start at 1 bubble or less. Confidence and endurance are built toward eliminating flotation devices. Introduction of advanced YMCA skills, while emphasizing correct technique.
STARFISH
Must complete RAY level. Children swim without bubbles, explore all aspects of YMCA skills and work toward mastering various strokes. Children are being prepared for the transition to the progressive program.
