Aquatics

The YMCA is America’s #1 Swim Teacher!

The YMCA Progressives Aquatics program for 6 to 12 year olds is designed to teach water safety, stroke development, and helps to promote personal growth and skill level. Advancing to the next level is dependent on the child’s completion of required skills and development. Children often require taking a class multiple times in order to develop and refine their skills to the point where they are ready to progress to the next swim level. (Parents may observe class on the pool deck on the last day of the program session only.)

Unless otherwise indicated, classes meet once a week for eight weeks.
Fee:  $100/8 lessons - Membership is required.

POLLIWOG
This is a beginner class for children who may have a fear of the water or lack the endurance to swim the length of the pool without a flotation device. Children work on YMCA skills including water safety, stroke development, confidence and endurance.
GUPPY

MINNOW
Must complete Guppy level. Children learn to use rotary breathing while doing front crawl and fine tune their back crawl stroke. This level also introduces them to a breast stroke kick both on their stomach and back.
FISH
Must complete Minnow level. Children are capable of swimming 50 meters of front crawl using rotary breathing and can perform the back crawl proficiently while fine tuning their breaststroke and furthering YMCA skills.
FLYING FISH
Must complete Fish level. Children in this class focus on various strokes, front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, side stroke, and butterfly and build endurance to swim 100 meters or more each set. They continue to explore YMCA skills through cooperation and teamwork.
SHARK
Must complete Flying Fish level. Children continue to fine tune the strokes, while learning racing starts and turns as well as the 200 Individual Medley 50 meters each – butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and front crawl.
PORPOISE
