HEALTH & SAFETY COURSES

        American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification

American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification 

Participants will gain the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. The course will prepare the participant to recognize and respond quickly to emergencies and prevent drowning & injuries.

     Prerequisites:

  • Must be 15 or older within 30 days of the course
  • Must be able to perform the follwing skills by the second week of class:
    • Swim 300 years (12 lengths) freestyle
    • Tread water for 2 minutes using only legs (no hands)
    • Basic sidestroke
    • Standing dive
    • Complete a 1 minute, 40 second timed event 

     All participants will learn:

  • the values of behaving in a professional manner
  • ow to identify behaviors of a swimmer, distressed swimmer and active/passive drowning victims
  • to understand the components of an emergency action plan and how to activate it
  • how to perform equipment-based rescues
  • how to provide first aid and how to care for breathing and cardiac emergencies
  • how to recognize and care for possible head, neck or back injuries 
      Length:
  • 31 hours, 15 minutes
     Certification requirements:
  • attend all class sessions
  • demonstrate competency in all required skills and activities
  • demonstrate competency in the three final skill scenarios
  • score at least 80% of the questions in the three sections of the final written exams
     Certificate Issued and Validity Period:
  • Lifeguarding/First Aid: 3 years
  • CPR/AED for Lifeguards: 1 year
     Cost:
  • $330.00 (includes all materials)
  • Recertification: $100.00 (includes card)
  • Book: $35.00
  • Mask: $15.00
American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer

Participants will learn the skills needed to respond appropriately to breathing and cardiac emergencies. This also includes the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) to care for a victim of cardiac arrest.
