Youth Swim Programs 

Ages 6 - 12 Years

POLLIWOG
Beginners use flotation 

In this class children are taught basic paddle stroke and kicking skills with use of flotation devices. Children explore front and back floats, comfortably putting their face in the water, jumping in, sit dives and swimming on their front, back, and side with good body position.


GUPPY
This class is designed for children who can swim 25 yards paddle stroke without stopping, showing good body position, a strong flutter kick, and can put their face in the water comfortably. They can also do a front and back float without assistance, paddle and kick on their back and side, jump in the water and perform a sit dive without assistance. 


MINNOW
This class is designed for children who can swim 25 yards of front crawl demonstrating they have mastered rotary breathing, swim 25 yards of elementary backstroke, 25 yards of back crawl, tread water for 30 seconds and do a dive unassisted.


FISH
This class is designed for children who can swim 50 yards of front crawl, 50 yards backstroke, 50 yards elementary backstroke; 50 yards breaststroke and tread for 1 minute. 

FLYING FISH
This class is designed for children who can swim 50 yards of front crawl with open turns, breaststroke for 50 yards with open turns, elementary backstroke with a glide, back crawl with a roll and open turns, side stroke for 25 yards, butterfly for 2/3 the length of the pool, and tread water for 3 minutes.
 
SHARK
This class is designed for children who can swim 100 yards front crawl with bilateral breathing and flip turns, breaststroke for 100 yards with flip turns, side stroke for 50 yards, butterfly for 25 yards, and tread water for 6 minutes using rotary, whip, and scissor kicks.
 
PORPOISE
Requires Volunteer Work - Minimum of 2 Classes Taught.

This class is designed for children who can swim 200 yards front crawl with flip turns, perform racing dives, swim 200 yards breaststroke with pullouts and open turns, swim 200 yards backstroke with flip turns and dolphin kick streamlining, swim 50 yards butterfly and perform a 200 yard individual medley.


SWIM CLUB
Prerequisite: Swimmers must be 6 or older and Flying Fish level or higher. Participants must be able to swim the butterfly stroke and know open turns and swim at least 100 yards of front crawl, backstroke, and breaststroke.

In this program participants are receiving coached workouts once or twice a week which will help them to build strength, speed and endurance, which will compliment their stroke technique.


JUNIOR LIFEGUARD
Prerequisites: Youth must be 11-14 years old. They must be able to swim at least 100 yards, dive to a depth of 10 feet and tread for 1 minute.

This class provides a foundation of lifeguarding skills. For youth with swim skills, this program makes an ideal transition between swim lessons and Lifeguard training. This course includes both classroom and pool time.


Participants will not receive a Lifeguard certification at the end of this course.
