Aquatics

Youth Swim Classes for Ages 3 to 5 years old

One-on-One Instruction
• 6 half hour lessons to be completed within an 8 week program session.
• Personalized in order to meet individual needs.
• Scheduled at convenience of participants and will coincide with group lessons.
Semi-Private Instruction
• 6 half hour lessons to completed within an 8 week program session.
• Lessons to be shared by 2 participants whose skill levels are relatively close.
• Instruction will be personalized to meet the needs of participants.
Pike
(Ages 3-5)

• No pre-requisites. This is the first step to the exploration of the water.
• Children will use (IFD) Instructional Floatation Device provided by the Y.
• Swimmers learn to adjust to group environments and will learn basic water safety.
• An introduction will be made to boating safety using a (PFD)
Personal Floatation Device.

Eel
(Ages 3-5)
 
• Must successfully complete Pike skills: front paddle, face in water, blowing bubbles, back and side paddle strokes while wearing an IFD.
• Children will continue to enhance basic skills in order to become
stronger swimmers.
 

Ray
(Ages 3-5)

• Must successfully complete Eel skills, particularly the front and back paddle strokes.
• Children must be comfortable with their faces in the water while blowing bubbles and move comfortably through the water without the use of an IFD.
• Swimmers will be introduced to basic lifesaving skills. (May register only upon recommendation by a Y instructor.)
Starfish
(Ages 3-5)

• Children will learn to refine strokes and underwater swimming skills
• Personal safety, rescue and floating skills will be taught.
• Students will be able to swim the length of the pool on their front and
   back upon completion.

Catfish
(Ages 5-12)

• Designed to work with children who have special needs/disabilities.
• Instruction takes place in small groups and will meet individual needs.
