Aquatics

Youth Swim Classes for Ages 5-12 years old.

One-on-One Instruction
• 6 half hour lessons to be completed within an 8 week program session.
• Personalized in order to meet individual needs.
• Scheduled at convenience of participants and will coincide with group lessons.
Semi-Private Instruction
• 6 half hour lessons to completed within an 8 week program session.
• Lessons to be shared by 2 participants whose skill levels are relatively close.
• Instruction will be personalized to meet the needs of participants.
Polliwog
(Ages 6-12) (5 if they are in full day kindergarten)

• Class acquaints children with the pool, floatation devices 
  and front and back floating.

• Children will learn paddle stroke, side and back paddle, some synchronized 
  swimming and wetball mechanics.

Guppy
(Ages 6-12)

• Must successfully complete Polliwog skills.
• Children will continue to practice and build upon basic skills.
• Introduction to lead-up strokes to the front and back crawl, sidestroke, 
  breaststroke and elementary backstroke.

Minnow
(Ages 6-12)

• This is the initial intermediate level.
• Children will further refine the lead up strokes.
• Continue perfecting synchronized swimming and wetball skills,
personal safety boating and rescue.
 
Fish
(Ages 6-12)

• Students perfect strokes previously learned with the addition of turns.
• Introduction to butterfly stroke.
• Continue learning personal safety boating and rescue skills.
• Introduction to the use of mask and fins.
Flying Fish
(Ages 6-12)

• Students work to refine strokes, increase endurance and
perform complex combinations of movements.
• Introduction to use of snorkel and continuation of boating
safety, personal safety and rescue procedures.
 
Shark
(Ages 6-12)

• Students continue to improve strokes.
• Introduction to the use of snorkel and continuation of rescue procedures.
• Introduction to inverted breaststroke, the trudgen craw, and over arm
sidestroke.
Porpoise

Successful completion of the Shark level.
This final level of swimming teaches flip turns, side stroke and
lifesaving skills, while also teaching leadership and volunteerism.
It is designed to be a stepping stone for swimmers who would possibly
want to be a lifeguard in the future. Age requirement of 11 years and up.
Youth Swim Stroke Clinic
(Ages 5+)

• Must be able to swim one length of the pool.
• This class is a must for children wishing to perfect technique,
   build endurance or get ready for a swim team.
Pre-Swim Team
(Ages 6-15)

• Successful completion of Fish level or above.
• Promotes interest in lap swimming for fun and endurance.
• Instructional and developmental swim skill drills.
Guard Start

This course is designed for swimmers 11-14 who are interested in eventually
becoming a lifeguard. Participants will learn lifeguarding techniques used in
emergency situations as well as the role of the lifeguard in an aquatic facility.
Each class will feature discussions concerning a lifeguard’s responsibility,
demonstration and practice of lifeguarding techniques, and conditioning.
Participants will also learn basic CPR and First Aid skills.
NOTE: This is a pre-lifeguarding course. No certifications will be issued at
the conclusion of the course.
