Theater Classes 

The Y strives to enrich community by creating a place for children of        
all ages and backgrounds to join together in a love of stage. In an
educational and nurturing environment, we inspire tomorrow's artists
through performance, education, and mentorship.

Talented Tots
(Ages 3-6)
8 weeks. Held at the Y. Thursday classes held in the Jitterbug Gym.
Saturday classes held in the Little Einsteins room. 
This introduction to theatre uses body movement, voice, and
guided imagery to help stimulate imagination. Children will
exercise listening and communication skills by acting out story
tales and more.
Act on Stage
(Ages 7-12)
8 weeks. Held at the Y. Tuesday classes held in the Jitterbug Gym. Saturday classes held
in the Little Einsteins room. 
This class uses theatre games, body movement, imagination enhancement, communication skills,
improvisation, and music to allow children to experience the thrill
of theatre. Students will perform in a mini production at session's end.
Act on Screen
(Ages 7-11 & 12+)
8 weeks. Held at the Y in the Jitterbug Gym. 
An on-camera class where the student will learn how to audition and
act out television commercials. Work will be viewed during each class on a tv screen.
This class is instructed by a professional tv and film actress and theatre instructor.
Major Minors Encore!
(Ages 8-11)
8 weeks. Held at the Y.
An 8 week version of MAJOR MINORS,
this workshop is offered in Spring and
Summer only.
Singer's Spotlight
(Ages 12-16, by audition only)
8 weeks. Held at the Y Boulton Center.
This specialized class for the more advanced singer allows the
student to focus on how to perform a solo song using the same acting and
vocal techniques used by professionals. A cabaret-style show is presented at session's
end. This class is instructed by a professional voice teacher and former Broadway actress.
Teen Advanced Acting Workshop
(Ages 14 + w/instructor approval)
8 weeks. Held at the Y Boulton Center.
Advanced acting techniques including character work,
monologue and scene study. Great for college prep!
Adult Acting
(Ages 18+)
8 weeks. Held at the Y.
Combines basic acting technique with body/voice-breath work,
emotional life exercises, and relaxation/meditation. This class enchances skills of the
intermediate or advancced adult actor. Helps beginning actors discover a new creative
life and confidence.
Major Minors Showtime
(Ages 8-11)
Runs Sept. through March.
This is an all-singing version of the Musical Theatre Workshop, where
students learn and perform songs in styles ranging from musical theatre to folk, rock and pop.
They will learn vocal and performing techniques under the direction of a professional
voice teacher and former Broadway actress and perform in an exciting cabaret-style show
at session's end.
FALL REGISTRATION ONLY FOR PERFORMANCE IN LATE JANUARY.
Performance Workshop
(Ages 8-14)
Spring Show "Charlotte's Web"
Held at the Y Boulton Center, 2 hours 2x weekly.
Auditions: Tuesday, January 3rd, 4-6 pm at the Y Boulton Center.
Classes run from January 9-April 23.
Performance will be Sunday, April 22 at 2 pm.
Teen Musical Theatre
(Ages 14+)
Approx. 20 weeks. Held at the Y Boulton Center.
Production with instruction: acting and performance instruction
along with rehearsal and production of an established show. Performances
at The Boulton Center and for community special events. Class meets twice weekly with performances
beginning early February. FALL REGISTRATION ONLY!
Performing Arts Camp
(Ages 8-17)
Be a star in Performing Arts Camp!
Held off-site, these full day programs offer campers of all levels the opportunity
to learn and experience various aspects of theatre and production
with professional instruction in acting, dance and voice. Backstage crew
and set building plus special trips/guest speakers add to this "production with instruction"-
which all culminate with full scale productions at session's end.
Past shows include Footloose, Fiddler on the Roof, Groovy, and Disney's Mulan Jr.
Performing Arts Camp Jr.
(Ages 6-9)
Held at the Y Boulton Center.
Time for your little one to shine! This program introduces young children
to the magice of theatre. Program will include creative play, acting out stories, creating
characters, basic acting technique, voice and movement work, following
(stage) directions and will culminate in a small mini-show at session's end.
Great for social interaction, stimulating the imagination, enchancing
memory skills and having lots of fun!
