Youth Swim Program for children ages 3-5 years

The National YMCA swim program is designed to develop each participant's potential, encourage safety awareness in and around the water and perfect swim skills. 

(Pike, Eel, Guppy/Ray) is designed for preschool swimmers and each level will build upon the preceding one in order to allow children to progress at a challenging yet comfortable pace. Children must be 3yrs & toilet trained by the first day of class.  (Parents may observe class on the first and last day of the programs session only.)

Pike

Preschool swimmers new to the Y must register for this level
No previous water experience required
Explore the aquatic environment and adjust to group situations
Use of an Instructional Flotation Device (IFD)

Eel

 Instructor recommendation only
Successful completion of Pike skills
 Front paddle stroke with face comfortably in the water, blowing bubbles,
• Back and side paddle strokes with IFD

Guppy/Ray

• Instructor recommendation only, children do not wear IFD’s
• Successful completion of Eel or Polliwog skills
 Front/back float 10 sec.
 20 ft. each Back paddle stroke, front paddle stroke with face wet, blowing bubbles
 75 ft. endurance swim
