Youth Swim Program for ages 4 or 5 and in full day school.

The National YMCA swim program is designed to develop each participant's potential, encourage safety awareness in and around the water and perfect swim skills. 
 

This program has been developed by the YMCA of the  U.S.A. Each level will build upon the preceding one in order to allow children to  progress at a challenging  yet comfortable pace. First time youth program swimmers must contact ext.121 for proper placement.

FEE: $97.00 + membership for 9/30 minute classes





Polliwog
• Beginner swimmer
• Children use IFD (Instructional Flotation Device) as needed
Guppy/Ray
• Instructor recommendation only
• Successful completion of Polliwog or Eel skills
 20 FT each back and front paddle stroke with face in the water, blowing bubbles
without using IFD
75 ft. Endurance swim without IFD
Minnow
• Instructor recommendation only
• Successful completion of Guppy
• Tread water, Front/Back float 20 sec. 
• 10 Bobs with bubbles
• 40 ft. each; Front Crawl with Proper Rotary Breathing and Back Crawl, Front and Back Symmetrical Stroke, Side Paddle Stroke
Fish
• Instructor recommendation only
• Successful completion of Minnow
 Tread water, Front and Back Float - 3 mins.
 25 yds each; (1 Lap) Front Crawl, Back Crawl, Rudimentary Breaststroke, Elementary Backstroke & Side Stroke.
•Safety Swim - Jump into deep end/ Swim 40 feet Front crawl/Float 30 sec/swim to end of pool.
Flying Fish
• Instructor recommendation only
• Successful completion of Fish
Tread water, Front/Back Float 5 mins. 
 Head/feet first surface dives
 Swim 50 yds. each; Front Crawl, Back Crawl, Breast Stroke with Rudimentary turns, Elementary Backstroke, & Sidestroke
Shark
• Instructor recommendation only
• Successful completion of Flying Fish
 Tread water, Front/Back Float 6 mins.
 Rudimentary Flip turns
 Swim 75 yds. each; Front Crawl with bilateral breathing, Breaststroke with Rudimentary Power Pull, Elementary Backstroke, Back Crawl.
 100 yard Sidestroke; (50 yds Sidestroke each side); 50 yds..Life Saving Side Stroke (each side)
 15 yds. butterfly stroke
Porpoise
age 11 +
• Porpoise Fee: Includes one 30 minute “Porpoise class” and one 30 minute Polliwog or Guppy as an “assistant”.
• Porpoise may “assist” in a second Polliwog or Guppy class. Fee: $25
• Call Ext. 121 to request a spot to “assist”, only 1 assistant per class
• Instruction also includes basic Ligeguarding Skills, Wetball skills and skills for assisting instructors with classes
• Successful completion of Shark
 Swim 100 yds.each; front crawl with bilateral breathing and flip turns, breaststroke with power pull and open turn, back crawl with flip turns
 50 yds; butterfly with open turn- streamline position
 100 IM (25yards each with starts and turns: Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Freestyle
Not available during the Summer Session
Youth Competitive Stroke
Fee: $118 + Membership for 9 / 45 minute classes
• Completion of YMCA Youth Swim Program through Shark level or approval from Genie Kelly
• Swimmers who wish to perfect their strokes and increase endurance
• Review of the four competitive strokes, front and back crawl, breaststroke and butterfly.
• Starts, turns and finishes
