At the Great South Bay YMCA we are committed to the High/Scope curriculum--a developmental curriculum based on Piaget's theory that children learn through exploratory play and decision making about that play. PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAMS

2 YEAR OLDS

Half Day Stay & Play

This is a pre-school readiness program for 2 1⁄2 year olds (must be 2 1⁄2 to register). Our goal is to help children handle separation, focusing on the use of language and socialization. Children will participate in weekly gym and music/movement classes. Children need not be potty trained.
DAYS/TIMES - Program meets
M/W/F 12:30-3:00 pm or
T/TH 9:00-11:30 am or 12:30-3:00 pm

Full Day Child Care

This program offers the opportunity for children to develop language and socialization skills while incorporating weekly gym, music/movement classes, computers, daily naps and outdoor play.
DAYS/TIMES - Minimum of 3 days per week 8:30-4:00 pm with extended hours available from 7:00-8:30 am and 4:00-6:00 pm

3 & 4 YEAR OLDS

Half Day Pre-School

Our theme-based curriculum is designed so that readiness skills are pursued at a level appropriate for each child’s development through the use of various centers in a nurturing atmosphere. Activities include weekly gym, music/movement classes, computers, snack time, outdoor play, in-house special events along with their day-to-day curriculum. All children will participate in one 8 week session of swimming lessons with our YMCA National Swim Program. Four year olds will focus on Kindergarten Readiness and also have field trips.

M/W/F or T/TH from 9:00-11:30 am or 12:30-3:00 pm

NEW! The “Lunch Bunch”
4 year olds only

Does your child need to spend a little more time with us? This 2 1⁄2 hour extended enrichment program for our half day pre-school morning students is the answer! Students will have a supervised lunch time followed by a 1 1⁄2 hour “Gym & Art” class or “Mad Scientist’s” class in our 3rd floor “Jitterbug Gym’ and art room.
Mon & Wed. 11:30 am – 2:00 pm.

Full Day Child Care

The Full Day Pre-School Program follows an expanded curriculum that parallels the half day program. Participants also receive an additional 8 week session of swimming lessons. Four year olds will focus on Kindergarten Readiness and have field trips.
DAYS/TIMES - Minimum of 3 days per week 8:30-4:00 pm with extended hours available from 7:00-8:30 am and 4:00-6:00 pm

NEW! SATURDAY DAY CARE
Ages 2-4 years

This NEW PROGRAM is designed for families in need of child care for their pre-school age children on SATURDAY. The program will be similar to our weekday YMCA Child Care and will offer many of the same activities including: arts & crafts, cooking, centers, music, computers, playground, sports and much more! Children will receive a healthy snack 2x daily. Parents must provide lunch. Child must be a Y Member.
Fee: $75 per day.
Start Date: Saturday, Sept 18, 2010
Day/Time: Saturdays from 9 am – 4 pm

UNIVERSAL PRE-KINDERGARTEN (UPK)

The YMCA has created an innovative partnership with the Bay Shore School District offering half-day (AM & PM) pre-kindergarten classes for 4 year olds. Designed as a Kindergarten Readiness Program, this is a statewide program offering free pre-school to 4 year olds at no cost to participants. Contact Bay Shore UFSD if you are interested in applying.
DATES/TIMES: Program meets M-F from 9:00-11:30 am or 12:30-3:00 pm

SPECIAL NEEDS / INCLUSION PROGRAM

The YMCA is also proud to partner with the Kramer Learning Center/ACLD by providing a pre-school inclusion program for children 3-4 years of age with special needs. Contact the ACLD/Kramer Learning Center for more information.
