HUNTINGTON YMCA EXPANSION PROJECT
Our Community, Our Responsibility,
Our Time.
|

History
Since the 1950’s, the Huntington YMCA has been serving the
community with a myriad of programs and services including
pre-school, childcare, aquatics, health enhancement, youth sports,
movement and performing arts.
|
Overview
Each day thousands of members experience the Huntington YMCA from
toddlers and their parents attending youth movement classes to
preschoolers going to “school” for the first time or youngsters
learning to swim, play soccer, hockey, baseball or to dance there’s
no better place to be a kid than at the Huntington YMCA. Working
parents depend on the Y to provide excellent care for their school
age (K-6) children either before or after school or both. Adults of
all ages find a welcoming and supportive environment in which to
keep healthy whether they choose the fitness center, pool, exercise
classes or all of the above! The Huntington Y provides a social
network thanks to the camaraderie that can develop while staying
healthy and fit. |

The Need
Although the programs are plentiful, the current needs are
substantial. Currently, we turn away too many children from programs
due to space constraints; our fitness center is at capacity. We are
struggling to keep up with the growing needs of special populations
such as seniors, the handicapped, teens or the clinically obese.
Parking facilities are inadequate. We find ourselves at a critical
point in our history.
The challenge, simply put, is we have outgrown our current space;
we must expand and modernize our Y to meet the needs of our
community. Click here to watch a brief video
presentation.
The driving force behind this modernization and expansion is the
growing demand for childcare. Two parent working families and single
parent families are a way of life, increasing the need for safe,
reliable childcare.

|
The Project
To that the end we will modernize the existing classrooms and add
seven more for a total of 13 classrooms. The growing health and
fitness needs of the community we will be served by increasing the
strength training center from 2,900 to 7,500 square feet. A redesign
of the parking lots will create more handicapped parking and safer
traffic patterns. Improving and enlarging our YMCA will enhance the
quality of life in our community. Click here to view
plans and renderings of the project. |
|
Project Status
The estimated budget for this project is $5.5 million. To date,
we have raised $5 million dollars through contribution from
individuals, corporations, organizations, government agencies and
foundations. Click here to see a list of our major
donors.
We are now embarking on the public phase of the campaign we will
be turning our attention to raising mid-level gifts from our staff,
members and community friends and neighbors through a combination of
direct appeals and special events. Click here to see how you can help.
Of course we will continue to work diligently to identify sources
of major gifts.
