PRESCHOOL CHILD CARE
PHILOSOPHY
The YMCA Preschool is devoted to providing
educational, social and physical opportunities in a safe, secure environment.
Each child benefits from our comprehensive curriculum that is designed for
discovery, choice making, problem solving and creative expressions. The balanced
program includes art, science, music, story time and cooking, in addition to
math and reading readiness skills. A session of swim instruction is included in
the 3 and 4 year olds classes. All ages will enjoy a session of Fitness Fun and
our Arts-in-Education Fund provides for special programs to visit the Preschool.
The Huntington YMCA Preschool is licensed by the NYS Office of Children and
Family Services. We follow all regulations to provide a safe and high quality
program for preschoolers. Our Preschool is staffed with certified and
experienced teachers with a staff and child ratio that meets or exceeds state
guidelines.
In addition, the Preschool staff are certified in
CPR, First Aid, and Child Abuse Prevention. All staff have completed extensive
background checks and participate in professional staff development training.
FACILITIES
Children will enjoy our brand new state-of-the-art
YMCA Preschool facility which will include many new fully equipped classrooms, a
computer lab, our playgrounds, swimming pool; and some preschool programs enjoy
the sport court, soccer field, full-size gymnasium and dance studios.
2 YEAR OLDS
(Diapers accepted)
Half Day
9:00-11:30 or 12:30-3:00
Our goals in the 2 year old program are to help the children handle
separation and become aware of themselves as individuals. We provide
opportunities for a child’s development in areas of speech, motor and social
skills. They learn to share, take turns and to be independent.
3 YEAR OLDS (Must be toilet trained)
Half Day
9:00-11:30 or 12:30-3:00
Through art activities and positive experiences, children express their
creative abilities in addition to developing self-esteem and self-confidence.
Our theme-based curriculum is designed so that readiness skills are pursued at a
level appropriate for each child’s development through the use of various
centers in a nurturing atmosphere.
Extended Day 3’s
9:00-2:00
This program offers your child our wonderful 3 year old curriculum in a
stimulating environment with added specials during the day. You supply the
lunch, we supply the activities.
Full Day 3’s
8:30-4:00
Full Day children have an expanded curriculum and participate in daily
specials, such as swimming, Play- Ground Theatre, creative movement, pee wee
sports and Spanish.
4 YEAR OLDS
Half Day
M-W-F 9:00-11:30 or 12:30-3:00
Your child will experience our core curriculum in a traditional half day
setting. Children are provided with a variety of experiences to prepare them for
kindergarten. Reading readiness and math-readiness skills are stressed.
Extended Day 4’s
9:00-2:00
This program offers your child our wonderful 4 year old curriculum in a
stimulating environment with added specials during the day. You supply the
lunch, we supply the activities.
Full Day 4’s
8:30-4:00
The Full Day program has an enhanced curriculum plus daily specials such as
swimming, Play- Ground Theatre, creative movement, pee wee sports and Spanish.
This program is educational as well as fun and will give your child a strong
foundation for kindergarten.
PRESCHOOL BEFORE/AFTER CARE
In addition to our Full Day Program for our three-
and four-year-olds, we offer expanded hours to ease the minds of working
parents. We host a Before Care program from 7:30-8:30 a.m. and an After Care
Program from 4:00-6:00 p.m. This program is staffed with our same fully
qualified teachers and assistants that work in our Preschool. Our program offers
a warm, nurturing, fun environment of games, puzzles, play and art activities to
round out the preschool day.
